Stephen Ryan


Mr. Stephen Ryan commenced training in Taekwon-Do in 1992

Mr. Ryan has completed several International Instructor Training Courses under the ITF technical committee, and IIC’s under General Choi Hong Hi, GM Choi Jung Hwa and GM Rhee Ki Ha.

As a competitor Mr. Ryan has held National titles in Pattern, Sparring and Special Technique. He has competed successfully at International level from 1998 to 2018 and has medaled at ITF European and World Championships and ITF European and World Cups on several occasions in team and individual events.

Mr. Ryan has held several committee positions within the Irish Taekwon-Do Association and has been elected as the ITA Secretary General since 2003. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Irish Taekwon-Do Association and and member of the Technical and Instruction Committee. He is an ITA Examiner and was ITA Umpire Chairperson for several years before being elected to the position of ITA tournament co-ordinator.

Internationally Mr Ryan held the role of chairperson of the ITF Communications & Development Committee from 2013 to 2019 inclusive. Mr Ryan was co-organiser of the ITF World Championships in Dublin in October 2017 and the 1st ITF Coaches’ Conference in UL, Limerick in 2019 as well as being part of the organising committee for IICs in Ireland in 2011 & 2013 and IUCs in 2012 & 2016.  Mr Ryan has been co-organiser of the ITA Summer camp for several years, hosting international guest instructors such as Master Tomaz Barada, Stephen Tapilatu, Master Jedut and Master Triqui.

Mr. Ryan is the head instructor of Quin Taekwon-Do Club (www.quintkd.ie) in Quin, Co. Clare which he runs along with Mrs Laura Ryan V Dan and is assisted by their team of black belts.

Mr Ryan has been a member of the national team coaching panel since 2011 and he was appointed head coach in November 2017.

As well as his Taekwon-Do qualifications Mr. Ryan holds a 1st Class Honours Degree in Physical Education from the University of Limerick, he works as a secondary school teacher and is a Level 1 NCDP qualified coach and tutor (coach developer) through Sport Ireland.

Competing from Quin TKD were; Shane Tuite (bronze -63kg senior, bronze senior male team sparring, Alice Larkon (silver junior female team sparring), James Tuite (silver junior male team sparring), Luke Moriarty (bronze senior male team sparring) and Katelyn Hehir.
